National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools.
Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society requires some sort of service to the community, school, or other organizations. The time spent working on these projects contributes towards the monthly service hour requirement. The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The Alpha chapter of NHS was founded at Fifth Avenue High School by Principal Edward S. Rynearson in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

At Walton High School, membership in NHS is limited to 12th grade students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.80 (or higher, weighted) who have met the additional requirements for membership based on their disciplinary record while in high school, their demonstrated leadership (on campus AND in the community), and participated in organized service opportunities. The selection process begins in spring of the students' 11th grade year, meaning the 3.80 GPA must be earned by the end of fall semester junior year.
Juniors interested in NHS should complete the "Activity Form for Interested Juniors" linked at the bottom of this page. Deadlines for submission of this form will be discussed during interest meetings held during March each year. Please inform Dr. Edwards (amanda.edwards@cobbk12.org) or Mrs. Staruch (kara.staruch@cobbk12.org) via email if you wish to be removed from consideration into NHS.

Walton's faculty have concluded their selection process and are happy to announce the invited members to NHS from the class of 2025. Please use the link below to view the names of those selected.

Two options are possible for selected students to attend the New Inductees Meeting (Mandatory) which will explain the next steps of membership.
Choose either:
Monday 4/22/24 from 3:35 to 4:00pm Room 419
or
Tuesday 4/23/24 from 7:50am-8:15am Room 419
Students not responding to their invitation to membership will be dropped from the NHS roster for the 2024-2025 school year. Please make every effort to attend the meeting (or email your reason for missing the meeting to amanda.edwards@cobbk12.org or kara.staruch@cobbk12.org)
